Parenthesis 07 is part of Parentheses, a series of variable edition prints made with hand set metal and wood type, using parentheses as the only glyphs.
This is a set of four prints, approximately postcard-sized. Each print is unique, and shows three to five colors as a result of up to five runs through the press. Unnumbered variable edition of 100. You can use these as very fancy postcards, or display as prints.
The Parentheses series started as an attempt to visually represent ambient music. It eventually resulted in my biggest print run yet—250 copies of Parenthesis 06, a one-color print that graces the cover of a limited-edition record by sound artist Small Cruel Party. Parenthesis 07 were printed as part of 06, and then given a few more passes of color.
The prints were made with metal type set by hand, and printed on a Chandler & Price platen. I used sticky notes, thin pieces of wooden furniture, and other tools and tricks to shift the position of the paper by small amounts during the printing process.
approx 4x6 in, set of 4 cards, packed in a clear sleeve. Several colors of ink on whipcream 100# cover-weight stock by French Paper Company.
